The Big Block Party expands upon a typical “Lawn Be Gone”-type program to encompass an entire street in a few days of work and is coordinated by the G3 Team.

  • These public/private collaborations include as many members of the community and environmental stakeholders as possible (non-profits, agencies, municipalities, civic leaders, property-owners, landscape design and construction professionals, students, etc.)
  • Provide supplies, tools and expertise (compost, mulch, dumpsters, plants, etc.) as well as the design and installation professionals to get the project finished in the short timeframe
  • Create a “master plan” for the project with simple and replicable landscape changes that can be implemented in small teams over a few days
  • Coordinate with cities and governmental agencies to secure permits, waivers, and funding for the project
  • Match property owners with landscape professionals and NGO volunteers to develop site-specific installation projects for each of the participants
  • Make it a weekend party with food trucks and live music
  • Invite nurseries and landscape supply outlets to participate and sell or donate plants and supplies such as compost, tools, irrigation equipment, etc.
  • Invite local businesses and water/stormwater agencies to participate and provide information booths with giveaways that support the program
  • Utilize social media to educate entire city about watershed wise principles and practices
  • Provide an opportunity for college students, work/study programs to monitor and report on the program
