Hands on Workshop: Landscape Stewardship and Maintenance: This workshop is taught in-field, and usually is either a stand-alone workshop or the final workshop in a Landscape Transformation Series.  Attendees learn how to identify issues in the landscape, program an irrigation controller, and develop a seasonal maintenance plan.

  • Identify the essential elements of the landscape in order to create an effective irrigation plan and program the irrigation timer (soil, plants, irrigation system)
  • Develop a seasonal maintenance plan for large shrubs and trees
  • Identify pest problems and learn about solutions in Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Learn about proper and appropriate pruning techniques
  • Maintain the soil “sponge” without using chemicals
  • Identify irrigation issues and make repairs as appropriate
  • Review rainwater capture best practices from the roof gutters to the street
  • (Professional class only) Discuss scheduling for maintenance of a landscape without lawn, pricing for a “sustainable operation”
  • This workshop is targeted to Property-owners and Professional Landscapers, including Maintenance Gardeners
  • Suggested pre-requisites include: Beautiful Gardens on Minimal Water, Protecting the Trees, Understanding Your Irrigation Timer, and HOW: Site Evaluation
