Long Beach Ocean Friendly Garden Anchors Lawn Patrol

Long Beach OFG

Another successful Lawn Patrol was launched today in Long Beach, anchored by the Ocean Friendly Garden built by Surfrider Foundation and community volunteers in April 2011.

Four Months After Planting OFG Growing Strong

Now, only four months later, the garden is beginning to look like the real and natural Long Beach it aspires to emulate.  Many of the native and climate-appropriate plants in the garden have tripled in size, and the groundcover has begun to fill in between the pavers in the front yard.  This garden supports Surfrider Foundation’s Ocean Friendly Gardens principles of C.P.R. (Conservation, Permeability, and Retention).  Participants in the Lawn Patrol began with this garden and then walked the neighborhood, comparing others to the ideal, and greatly improving their ability to spot an OFG.
